Ironman 2011 For Preda (Race Report Mark Lacey)

Charity Ironman for Preda (Mark Lacey’s report)

After 7 weeks of planning with Mark and James 8th July was on top of us.
4.30am alarm and off to Gloucester St to get set up for the event.

Swim started at 7am in Markievicz swimming pool we had 7 swimmers helping out
Lisa (the fish) Eoghan, Lorraine, James, Annick, Eoin, and Myself.
We were out off the pool in 55 minutes for 3.8km and we headed to the bike set up.

James and I started the long leg of the bike 180km this was hard we had to keep going through 2 hours of very heavy rain, poor James was in so much pain after 100km.
We where joined by people from local businesses which was a great push.

The bucket collectors where getting into the swing of things knocking on the car window and running after people that was fun to watch.
With 30 minutes to go, 5 happy faces came along to join the team Julie O Hagan and 4 Girls from Setanta Sports to give us a hand with the run.
We finished the bike in 6 hours 55 minutes

The Marathon was on the 5 girls where gone James and myself quickly caught up with them.
Breifne Earley challengeten.com joined use on the run after doing 80km on the bike.
He was a great help during the day by keeping us going.
We had over 12km to go and it was down to James and myself this was hard as we where hurting badly.
We crossed the finish line with a run time 3 hours 25 minutes.
Total time for the Ironman 10 Hours 35 Minutes

I would like to thank James Miers without him we could have not finished it.
